This iconic photograph is entitled The Bronx March (1969) and features members of the Young Lords marching from the Bronx to East Harlem, and eventually on to Queens, marching in solidarity with the Black Panthers for the freedom of Bobby Seale, the Panther 21, and the broader liberation struggles of Puerto Rican people on the island and in the diaspora.

Across Lexington Avenue is the Spanish Methodist Church that was famously occupied by the Young Lords in 1969 and in 1970, in order to offer free breakfast programs, clothing drives, health services and cultural programming to the community. They renamed it The People’s Church. This street was later renamed Young Lords Way, commemorating the activist history of the Young Lords on this block, and throughout the neighborhood.
